We are a local family of believers seeking to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to fulfill the great commission by making disciples, training leaders and planting churches.
Brief History
Our church family began in 1988 as a church plant. A small group of about 15 people formed Pohick Bay Church being sent out from Cornerstone Christian Center, at that time meeting in Springfield, Virginia. They themselves had been sent out in 1980 from Abbot Loop, a fellowship in Anchorage, Alaska. We grew over the first two years meeting corporately on Sundays and in small groups throughout the week. During our third year we moved into our current facilities and have expanded several times to meet our growing needs. Our emphasis has been to make disciples, train leaders, and plant churches. In the year 2001 we were blessed and honored to send out a team to plant Westgate Chapel, pastored by Brett and Leigh Anne Monk in Herndon, Virginia (now in association with Dove Fellowship Intn'l). Then, in 2002 we sent a team to start Freedom Fellowship Church in Dale City, Virginia, pastored by Kurt and Suzanne Wallace.
Also, in 2002 we joined Grace Network, an apostolic network of about 20 congregations in relationship. This relationship has been a great source of encouragement, blessing and accountability. We are also committed to serving and working with other local congregations within the Alexandria, Springfield, Newington and Lorton area which include: Washington Community Church, Iglesia Gran Comision, Cena Del Senor, Grace Bible Church of Lorton, Gunston Bible Church, and Shiloh Baptist Church.
Beliefs
We are a Christ centered and biblically based church. We subscribe to the creeds and confessions of the historical, orthodox Christian church from the Apostles Creed through the Lusanne Covenant drafted in 1988.
Belonging
We are looking to build lasting relationships, bringing people to Christ and seeing them grow in Him. We invite those who have a desire to seek the Lord and grow in Him to check out our various areas of ministry.
